Watching the game was difficult, having watched it during the intermission in the Leafs game. I think everyone had the same idea, as the Rogers Centre only looked like it was 60% full.
So what did I see, I saw Liriano pitch well, and I saw Kevin Gausman pitch well. The Josh Donaldson play in the fourth was a disgrace, that’s the point of video review, to overturn wrong decisions, and Donaldson clearly beat the throw, yet they still gave it out. Take a look yourself, they said that his foot wasn’t on the front of the bag, I think that’s bullshit.
Liriano was brought out in the 7th having pitched six and two-thirds, conceding 2 earned runs and getting 10 strikeouts. Yet again it was a case of the pitching staff doing their job, and the bats yet again failing to fire. At the start of the year, the main issue was perceived to be regression from the pitching, yet it’s proved to be their greatest strength, and with 7 quality starts from the Jays already this season, the bats better heat up quickly, else the Jays will struggle to win 70 games this year.
Both bullpens were lights-out until the bottom of the 9th, not allowing a hit, at which point Zach Britton again struggled. Runners were on 2nd and 3rd with one out, however Britton still got the save, getting a ground-out to third off Pillar and a line-out to centre from pinch-hitter Steve Pearce. Orioles win 2-1.
I was surprised to see Toronto Raptors number one ticketholder Nav Bhatia watching tonight, goes to show how much money he must have. Also the Leafs lost in OT blowing a 2-goal lead, so today was a pretty shitty day for Toronto sports
